We instinctively accept that market conditions influence business performance. Interest rates, competition, consumer confidence and regulation all shape the probability of success. Yet when it comes to our careers, businesses, leadership teams and organizations, we often assume outcomes are simply a function of working harder, learning more or finding a better strategy.
